About Cruwys Cherubs

Cruwys Cherubs is run by Mrs Jean Cruwys and her dependable group of ladies.

Mrs Cruwys has had over 40 years nursery experience and a previous nursing career including    specialisation in the care of young children and babies. Her colleagues are experienced nursery practitioners and have a broad range of special skills and interests. More than adequate staffing levels are always maintained. First Aid and First Aid and Fire Safety courses are attended to ensure that safety is a major factor at Cruwys Cherubs.

The Nursery is fully registered and has completed several successful OFSTED inspections. This enables the Nursery to apply for grant funding is available as soon as a child is eligible (at present the term after their third birthday). In some circumstances two year olds are also eligible (FEET funding). We also accept child care voucher schemes.

We are situated at The Whyteleafe Football Club, 15 Church Road, Whyteleafe, CR3 0AR. We are open five weekdays from 9.00am to 3.30pm. Children can attend for a session for the whole day or flexible hours are available to suit the needs of both parent and child. We offer lunch clubs from 12noon to 1pm when children can have a packed lunch and participate in special activities like Book Club and Music Club. This provides children with an early introduction into the concept of meals at school, i.e. washing hands, table manners, etc. We cater for up to 40 children between 2 and 5 years of age. All children are welcome whatever their background, race, creed, colour, religion, special needs, etc.

Our mission is to enable children to take the first steps in education in an atmosphere of tender loving care. We encourage children to socialise, learn to share and play together and to become happy and confident individuals. Children will always be restrained from doing anything that is harmful or dangerous to themselves or others.

All our activities have an educational element but more formal ‘lessons’ start when an individual child is ready. Activities include cooking, art and craft, PE, singing, dancing, music, sand and water play, construction, computer , role play, playdough, books and story time and safety club. An extensive outdoor area, with the use of a large secure astro turf pitch, offers good opportunities for physical development. Outings are planned and visits to the Nursery by emergency services, vet, dental educator, etc. are arranged.

Seasonal activities and open days, which parents / carers are invited to attend, occur each term. A diary of events is distributed at the beginning of each term and displayed on the notice board.

You are encouraged to discuss your child’s progress with us at any time. We are never too busy to see you, however small your concern.
